A case of five members of a family converting to Islam has come to light in Nagina area of Nuh district of Haryana, which has created social and political stir at the local level. While the family is calling it the result of coaxing and greed, the members who converted have said that it was a decision taken on their own will.
What is the matter
Satbir, a resident of Marora village, in a complaint to the Nagina police station, said that his brother Chetram (45), sister-in-law Rekha (39), nephew Shivam (21), niece Sonam and younger nephew Arun (8) have been missing from home since the evening of August 25. Satbir alleges that Shaheed Aterna and Sirajuddin Rajaka of Nagina block lured the family into converting to Islam and kept them hidden in a house located at Badkali Chowk.
Claim of voluntary conversion in affidavit and statement
In the affidavit that went viral on social media, the family members have written that they have converted to Islam of their own free will. According to sources, during interrogation at Nagina police station, Chetram and his family reiterated that they had converted voluntarily and not under any pressure.
Police action
Nagina police station in-charge Praveen Kumar said that on the basis of the complaint, a case has been registered against Shahid Aterna and Sirajuddin. Statements of all the people who converted have been recorded in the court, in which they said that they have freely accepted Islam. After the statement, they were released.
Local protest and panchayat
In protest against this incident, a panchayat of Hindu society was organized at Kabir Nath temple in Nuh on Wednesday. Many dignitaries of the district participated in it and expressed concern over the incidents of conversion. The speakers described it as a serious social issue and discussed topics like love jihad and forced religious conversion.
