Washington, Friday: In a setback to American politics and economy, the US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has declared most of the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump illegal. The court clarified that the President has special powers in emergency situations, but he does not have the right to directly impose tariffs or taxes.
This decision is considered a major setback for the economic policies of the Trump administration, especially at a time when global trade and domestic markets are already facing instability. The court, however, has allowed these tariffs to remain in force till October 14, giving the Trump administration an opportunity to appeal to the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, President Trump has rejected the court’s order and said that the tariffs will continue to be in force. He called it a “necessary step for America’s security and self-reliance”.
